Position Summary: Finance Committee Member

Finance Committee Members provide fiduciary oversight and support financial planning for the OCAD Student Union (OCAD SU). Members work collaboratively with the Chair and Financial Manager to review budgets, financial reports, and meeting minutes. Committee members are expected to act responsibly with knowledge of financial decisions, uphold fiduciary duties, and ensure transparency and accountability in all SU financial matters. Reports To:

The Chair of the Finance Committee,  Executive Director of Operations

Working Relationship:

Manager of HR and Administration,  Finance Manager and other Finance Committee Members

Term of Work, Hours & Honorarium:

This is a temporary contract position running from March 7, 2026 to September 30, 2026. The total time commitment will be approximately 3 hours per month. We are looking for two General Members to join!  

Committee members will receive an honorarium equal to the rate of pay for standing committees: $250 for 12 hours of work, up to $500 per semester for 24 hours of work. Hours worked beyond the estimated monthly expectation will be compensated hourly, upon approval by the Chair. Payment is issued as a lump sum at the end of each semester.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria

  • Must be a member in good standing with OCAD SU
  • Must be able to commit to monthly meetings and required financial review work
  • Must complete training within 30 days of contract start (at the first official meeting or via a make-up session with the Financial Manager)
  • Must act with fiduciary responsibility and maintain confidentiality regarding financial matters

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the Finance Committee
  • Attend monthly OCAD SU meetings
  • Provide fiduciary oversight of SU budgets and financial planning for the fiscal year ahead
  • Review financial reports submitted by committees, events, and board members
  • Review previous meeting minutes and act responsibly with knowledge of past decisions
  • Work collaboratively with the Chair and Executive Director of Operations for guidance on meeting agendas, attendance, and general work-related questions
  • Collaborate with the Financial Manager on budget proposals, financial literacy, and report reviews between meetings
  • Uphold transparency, accountability, and fiduciary responsibility in all decisions

Selection of the Committee:

Committee members will be selected by the OCAD SU current Finance Committee
